Having been part of the RMS community since Year 7, Sophie Smith’s journey through the school culminates in a phenomenal achievement: a clean sweep of four A* grades across Psychology, Sociology, and Design & Technology (DT), alongside her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Her choice of subjects—blending creative design, human behaviour, and social dynamics—has paved the perfect path for her next big step studying Applied (Clinical) Psychology at the University of Exeter.

Building Self-Belief

For Sophie, achieving top results was rooted in the culture of care and encouragement she found across her seven years at RMS. Navigating coursework-heavy A-Levels and university applications can be demanding, but the guidance of her form tutors and teachers provided a steady anchor.

“School supported me in so many ways. My form tutors in particular were very supportive pastorally and went above and beyond giving advice and reassurance when I needed it. The teachers also always had an unwavering belief in me, which over time translated into a lot of self-belief and motivation!”

The Magic of Hind House

While academic progress was a constant, it was the vibrant social spirit of Sixth Form life in Hind House that truly made her final years unforgettable. Having a dedicated space separate from the main school gave the Sixth Form a distinct, close-knit identity.

“My favourite part of RMS Sixth Form was probably the atmosphere—there were always people around to have a chat, and everyone wanted the best for each other. It’s also separate from the rest of the school, which makes the whole of Hind House feel really special.”

Embracing the Next Chapter

Now preparing to move down to Devon to launch her career in clinical psychology, Sophie is eager to embrace all the milestone changes that university brings—from diving into her degree to building a whole new network of friends.

“I’m most looking forward to the change of being at university and being able to live independently and meet lots of new people.”

Looking back on her Sixth Form experience, Sophie’s message to anyone weighing up their options is simple and enthusiastic:

“For anyone considering RMS Sixth Form, I’d say do it! Despite the stress from coursework, A-Levels, and uni applications, it was the most fun two years!”

Congratulations to Sophie on her exceptional achievements! We wish her every success as she continues her next big step into independent university life at Exeter.
