Mission and Ethos

At RMS, we strive to equip our pupils with the skills they need to thrive in a digital world. We do this through an ambitious and inclusive digital curriculum, where technology enhances learning, fosters human skills and prepares students to lead and shape their future with confidence.

Rapid and continual developments in technology are changing the way students learn and we teach, and we make full use of the vast range of online tools, resources and activities that are available to enhance our pupils' learning experience.

We also prioritise the need to put our pupils' safety and wellbeing at the heart of our approach to digital learning.

A Google School

As a Google school, we benefit from access to the full range of educational tools Google has to offer, with the majority of online learning able to happen in the same digital ecosystem and protected by the enhanced safeguards and data protection that the Google for Education suite provides.

The tools, resources and accessibility features ensure our pupils can stay engaged and safe in their learning, whilst also fostering collaboration and creativity.

Our staff are fully trained in the use of Google tools for education and we have a number who are now certified as 'Google Educators', able to support ongoing training for staff so that we can deliver the most effective and engaging online learning experience for our pupils.

The Digital Classroom

Our use of Educational Technology ('EdTech') is driven by pedagogical purpose, to enhance the learning rather than to use technology for the sake of it.

The Digital Classroom

In the RMS classroom all pupils are expected to have their own device to access learning resources and activities. These are used alongside the more traditional, paper based resources and tasks that still account for much of the pupils' learning experience.

As a Google school, Chromebooks are the device of choice as they are fully compatible with the full range of Google software used in the classroom.

From September 2026, all pupils joining us in Year 7 will need their own personal Chromebook device which will be managed by a school licence. This will enable us to provide all of our pupils with a consistently high quality of digital learning provision whilst also putting in place the appropriate filtering, monitoring and safeguarding tools to protect and support them.

Further information about how to purchase your daughter's Chromebook from our chosen supplier will be shared with you in our admissions information.

Approach to AI

AI in education is a rapidly evolving area. The question for educators is no longer whether AI should be used, but how. Our pupils will be entering a working world where AI is integral to the majority of professional roles and it is incumbent upon educators to equip pupils with the skills they need not just to navigate AI but also to use it to enhance their learning and skillsets.

All pupils in Year 9 and above have access to Google’s AI tools via their school accounts, which benefit from the additional safeguards that Google for Education provides, protecting their data and ensuring that interactions and outputs are age appropriate. Before giving access to these tools, we teach pupils about the benefits and risks of using AI and how to engage with it safely and ethically.

Staff are also trained to incorporate AI into lessons and activities in a way that both enhances pupil learning and develops their skillset in using AI.

RMS works closely with professional networks and organisations to stay informed and to benefit from collaboration with other schools. Beyond following guidance from the Department for Education, we were recently awarded the Silver AI Quality Mark from the Good Future Foundation and are currently working on certification with AI in Education to further enhance our provision.

Digital Leaders

Our Digital Leaders are a team of students who help promote safe and responsible use of technology throughout the school. They organise assemblies, workshops and awareness events to encourage conversations about online safety, social media and digital wellbeing.

Working alongside staff, they help share important messages with their peers, support younger pupils and raise awareness of current online issues. Through their work, they help create a positive digital culture and encourage everyone to use technology safely, respectfully and confidently.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding our pupils is central to everything we do.  We are aware of the additional risks that the online world – and particularly AI – can present for young people, and our policies and practices are continually reviewed in response to them. RMS uses enhanced filtering and monitoring software to keep pupils safe when using the school network.

Use of digital technology including AI is incorporated across relevant policies, the most pertinent of which are:
