PALS (Provision of Assisted Learning and Support)

PALS: Our Commitment to Inclusion

Our Inclusion department is known as PALS (Provision of Assisted Learning and Support). Our mission is to support pupils with additional needs to access our mainstream curriculum, reach their full academic potential, and truly thrive.

We appreciate that while our pupils must be able to navigate a mainstream environment independently, many benefit from expert supportive strategies. At RMS, we support pupils across the four broad areas of need:

  • Communication and Interaction: Including Autistic Spectrum Disorder and speech and language difficulties.

  • Cognition and Learning: Supporting pupils with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and Dyscalculia.

  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health: Providing strategies for ADHD and other emotional needs.

  • Sensory and Physical Needs: Accommodating hearing impairments and processing difficulties.

If you have questions regarding your child’s specific requirements, Mrs. Morris, our Head of Inclusion (SENDCo), is available to discuss how we can partner with you to support their journey.

Pastoral Care

A Nurturing Pastoral Team

From the moment a girl joins Cadogan House, her individuality is celebrated. Our staff build deep, trusting relationships with pupils so they always have someone to turn to. While the class teacher is primarily responsible for a pupil’s welfare, they are supported by a dedicated pastoral team and numerous staff trained as Mental Health First Aiders.

We provide expert guidance not just to our pupils, but to our parents as well. This collaborative approach is a hallmark of our all-through school for girls, ensuring that pastoral support remains consistent as they grow.

Pupil Voice and Leadership

We work hard to ensure our pupils know their voices are heard. We empower our girls through various leadership opportunities, helping them build the confidence they will need in the Senior School. These roles include:

  • Head Pupils and Year 6 Heads of Houses

  • School Council and Environmental Action Team representatives

  • Community Council (The 3Cs): For pupils in Years 3, 4, and 5.

  • Year 6 ‘Leaders and Learners’ groups.

Expert Counselling and Safeguarding

Counselling

Life can be challenging, and we provide a safety net for when things get tough. Our school counsellors have over 40 years of experience and are valued members of our community, supporting pupils through everything from family bereavement to self-esteem hurdles.

Safeguarding

Our robust safeguarding culture is led by Mrs. Melanie Horn and our dedicated safeguarding team. Because we are an integrated school, our team works in close alignment with the Senior School safeguarding leads. This ensures a seamless transition to Senior School, as vital pastoral information and support structures move with the pupil, maintaining their safety and happiness throughout their entire journey at RMS.
