A Home from Home - Boarding at RMS

A Leading International Girls School

Founded in 1788 by Chevalier Ruspini, RMS for Girls is one of the UK’s leading boarding schools. We pride ourselves on fostering a truly international community, with girls from 20 different countries currently study with us. RMS is delighted to receive applications from across the world, either directly from families or through trusted agents.

Visiting Us

International families are welcome to attend one of our open days or come for a private tour of our girls-only boarding school. However, we understand that this may not be possible. Contact the Admissions Team directly and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have and can even take you on a virtual tour of the school!

Contact Us

UK Visa and Immigration

We are a Child Student Visa Sponsor Licence holder and will happily sponsor pupils who require a visa to study in the UK. Our admissions team is happy to help families through the application process once an offer of a place has been made.

Guardians

Pupils with parents who live or spend a considerable amount of time overseas must appoint a suitable Guardian, who should be over 25 years of age, resident in the UK and live within a suitable distance of the school. It is essential that the Guardian, as well as parents, understand their responsibilities before undertaking the role.

Next Steps

The next step is to register and subsequently take our RMS Entrance Assessments. We use the Password online assessments in Maths and English. You can find out more about Password here.  After the assessments have been marked we will arrange an interview with the relevant Head. We will also ask you to provide a copy of your child’s current school report and any supporting certificates.

Non-English native language speakers will be required to attend English as an Additional Language (EAL) support lessons until the Director of Learning Support is satisfied that the pupil has reached the level required to study at a UK university.

Studying at one of the UK’s top girls-only boarding school is flexible and student-centred. You can choose between:

  • Full boarding
  • Weekly boarding
  • Flexi-boarding (where your child stays for selected nights but still has a space to keep their belongings)

WHAT AGES CAN BOARD AT RMS?

Boarding is available from Year 5 through Year 13, with age-appropriate houses for different year groups:

  • Harris House – Years 5 to 9
  • Zetland House – Years 10 and 11
  • Connaught House – Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13)

WHAT IS THE BOARDING ENVIRONMENT LIKE?

Each boarding house has its own character and provides a “home from home” feel with housemistresses and staff caring for students’ wellbeing, sleep, academics, and social life. There’s a strong community feel with opportunities to develop independence, tolerance, teamwork, and responsibility.

WHAT ACTIVITIES DO BOARDERS TAKE PART IN?

Boarders enjoy a varied weekend programme, including trips to museums and galleries, sporting activities such as horse-riding and ice-skating, and craft sessions. RMS’s location also means London is accessible for cultural and educational experiences.

CAN INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BOARD?

Yes, international students are a big part of what makes RMS so special! Our boarding community is currently home to girls from more than 20 nationalities, with 2/3 of our boarders joining us from overseas — something we’re really proud of as a top international girls’ boarding school in the London area.

We also understand that moving to a new country and a new school full of unfamiliar people can feel overwhelming. That’s why we provide dedicated support to help every pupil settle into the community as quickly as possible. Before long, RMS will feel like a true second home.

HOW ACCESSIBLE IS RMS FOR INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES?

RMS for Girls is ideally located for international families. The school is situated just 23km from Heathrow Airport and is within walking distance of Rickmansworth railway station, where trains can take you into Central London in just 22 minutes, making visits and travel convenient.

WHAT ENTRANCE ASSESSMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS?

Applying to our girls-only boarding school is straightforward. International applicants simply need to register and take the RMS Entrance Assessments. We use Password online assessments in Maths and English. After the assessments have been marked, we will arrange an interview with the relevant head. You will also need to provide a copy of your child’s current school report and any supporting certificates.

WHAT SUPPORT IS PROVIDED TO HELP INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SETTLE IN?

At RMS for Girls, your child will learn to be independent, tolerant, and kind. She will know when to compromise and take responsibility, when to ask for help, and when to offer help. These are all skills she will need in her life after school. However, we understand that moving to a new country and school can feel overwhelming. Rest assured, we’ll be there to support her so she settles in quickly and feels right at home.

Each boarding house is led by an experienced housemistress, who is supported by a dedicated team that cares for both the academic progress and wellbeing of every student. Boarders have plenty of input into their routine and we try to be as responsive as possible to their feedback via house meetings and Boarders’ Council. It doesn’t take long before RMS truly feels like a second home.
