Amber’s journey at RMS began in Year 2, making her Sixth Form graduation the culmination of a 12 year RMS experience. After securing AAB at A-Level alongside a Distinction in her Leith’s Level 3 course – where she was also honored with the prestigious Student of the Year Award – Amber is heading to Loughborough University to study Industrial Design with a Placement year.
A Diverse Portfolio of Co-Curricular Passions
For Amber, the highlight of her Sixth Form experience was the chance to pursue leadership roles and non-academic interests outside the traditional classroom setup:
-
Community & Volunteering: Giving back through regular volunteer work with the local charity Phab.
-
Sports Leadership: Taking charge on the court and field as both Netball Captain and Drill Captain.
-
Engineering & STEM: Participating as an active member of the 2024–2025 CanSat team, building real-world problem-solving skills.
“RMS offers such a large variety and there is something that suits everyone,” Amber reflects. “I have had so much fun, made lifelong friends, and really enjoyed the entire experience.”
Dedicated Staff and Preparing for Independence
Balancing technical coursework, A-Levels, and leadership roles requires strong backing. Amber emphasizes that the willingness of staff to go above and beyond made all the difference:
-
Accessible Mentorship: Teachers regularly set aside break and lunchtime sessions to answer questions, clear up complex concepts, and help push students further.
-
Growth Beyond Academics: The increased independence offered in Sixth Form helped build crucial life skills and personal responsibility.
“The independence and responsibility you gain through different roles and experiences set you up in the best way possible for whatever path you choose to take,” she shares.
Looking Forward to Loughborough
When asked what lies ahead, Amber’s enthusiasm for her creative field shines through. She is eager to step into Loughborough’s state-of-the-art facilities, get hands-on in the workshops, work with industry-standard equipment, and push her design creativity to new levels.
The entire RMS community is incredibly proud of Amber’s remarkable accomplishments over her many years at the school, and we wish her the very best as she crafts her future at university!
