Changing schools for Sixth Form can feel like a daunting step, but as the latest episode of Stirred by the Sun reveals, it is also an opportunity for growth, independence, and new friendships.
Hosted by Headteacher Mr Carson alongside Head Pupils Saarala and Alessia, the panel sat down with new Deputy Head of Sixth Form Miss Woodward, Year 13 student Lottie, and Year 12 joiners Jasmine and Olivia to share their genuine experiences of joining the RMS community.
The episode opens with a brief nod to school tradition, following the first performance of RMS Drill ahead of its 150th Prize Day anniversary, before diving into the everyday realities of Sixth Form life.

Key Discussion Points
A Dedicated Environment: Students highlighted the sense of independence that comes with Hind House and Weybridge, the dedicated Sixth Form spaces. The balance between having a distinct, adult environment and remaining connected to the wider school community helps build confidence.
Smaller Classes & Personalised Support: Year 12 joiners noted how smaller class sizes allow for deeper discussions, closely mimicking university-style learning. Year 13 student Lottie shared how tailored guidance from teachers and dedicated groups like the MedVetDent Society helped her complete her medicine university applications.
Building Connections: From a London landmark scavenger hunt during induction week to joint social activities with local boys’ schools (including quiz nights, Septemberfest, and community volunteering with PHAB), new joiners quickly find opportunities to mix and make friends across year groups.
Honest Feedback for Improvement: In a candid reflection on what the school can do better for future joiners, the students suggested introducing dedicated physical maps to help navigate the 300-acre campus, structured events purely for new joiners to meet one another early on, and—most importantly—real butter for the Sixth Form common room toaster!
You get to be young adults here—building real opinions, debating, and having fun in a space where you can truly be yourself
