A Happy Half Term in Ruspini!

We’ve had the best time over this half term! From tiny tadpoles and hatching ducklings to space travel and exploring the grounds, our days have been packed with adventure.

A huge thank you to our special visitors for making it so memorable for the children, including the ambulance crew, Bertie the dog, and the mobile farm that came to visit!

Through their lens...

We gave our nursery children digital cameras, and instead of taking pictures of toys, they chose to take pictures of each other. Connection, friendship, and pure joy, captured entirely by them.

Ruspini Chicks!

Some of the newest and fluffiest residents of Ruspini House! These little chicks were only 2 days old in these photos and they stole everyone’s hearts!

National Space Day in Ruspini House

Our @ruspinihouse explorers took a giant leap today as we celebrated National Space Day. The classroom was transformed into a galaxy far, far away, filled with our Cosmic Crew:

• Brave Astronauts ready for moon missions.
• Friendly Aliens arriving from distant planets.
• Planets and Solar Systems of all shapes and sizes

It’s never too early to start looking at the stars. Whether they were building rocket ships out of cardboard or practicing their “moon walk,” our little stars reminded us that the sky isn’t the limit – it’s just the beginning!

Farm Friends at Ruspini & Cadogan House!

Our Nursery and Reception pupils had some very special visitors from Edge Farm, and our little learners spent the morning meeting, feeding and wanting to take home their new fluffy and feathered friends…

Local Paramedics Visit Ruspini and Cadogan

Ruspini and Cadogan were thrilled to welcome a local ambulance crew to school recently to teach them all about the vital role of paramedics. Our pupils loved:

• Listening to their heartbeats on the monitor
• Practicing their expert bandage-wrapping skills
• Seeing the ambulance lights in action

We definitely have some future paramedics in our midst – a massive thank you to the incredible crew for such an inspiring and memorable day!

Opening The New Cadogan Playground!

Watch our new Cadogan House playground and zip wire opening! It’s been such a joy to see the pupils of Cadogan enjoy this brilliant new equipment – Everyone is very excited!

Making a Splash at the Year 6 Swimming Gala!

So proud of everyone who jumped in, raced hard, and cheered even harder. The competition and energy was unmatched!

Flour, Sugar, and a Whole Lot of laughter!

Cadogan pupils had lots of fun baking with @leithspartnerschools Kid’s Kitchen, making 3 ingredient biscuits.

Cadogan Chess Team Compete in School Tournament

The Cadogan Chess Team recently headed to @stainesprep for a tournament. It was a tough field with 8 schools competing, and a huge shoutout to our youngest players from Year 2 and Year 3 who stepped up to compete against much older students.

The experience gained was a total win. It’s great to see that the life-size chess board in the cadogan playground is being put to good use!

New heights, new friendships and plenty of adventure!

Cadogan House Year 5s had an unforgettable residential at Culmington Manor, and what a week it was! Our highlights included:

• Scaling new heights on the climbing wall
• Testing nerves on the high wire course and zipline
• Channelling an inner Robin Hood during shooting and archer

This trip was all about teamwork and stepping out of our comfort zones, while making memories to last a lifetime. Well done Year 5 tackling every challenge with a smile!

Year 6 Visit Cornwall

Year 6 had a blast on their Cornwall residential trip! They got up to…

• • Artistic fun on the beach
  • Taking over the inflatable water park

Year 4 Visit Woodrow House

Move over, Paris Fashion Week - Year 6 has arrived!

Our Year 6 pupils took to the runway today for our annual French Fashion Show, and the talent was…incroyable!

From “un béret rouge” to “un parapluie vert,” every model announced their look in French without a single script in sight!

Getting Creative: Painting Ceramics

RMS Boarders of all ages relaxed over a recent Spring weekend by painting their own ceramics, with a beautiful view of the grounds.

A Splashtastic Weekend Day Out!

Our boarding students made a massive splash during their recent weekend trip to The Rampage Aqua Park in Ware, Hertfordshire! Geared up in wetsuits and life jackets, the group took to the lake to conquer the giant inflatable obstacle courses, tackling towering slides, climbing walls, and balancing beams.

Fast and Furious: Boarding Students Go Karting

Our boarding students took to the fast lane with an adrenaline-packed trip to TeamSport Indoor Go Karting! After gearing up in their racing suits, balaclavas, and helmets, the students hit the grid to test their driving skills on the multi-level indoor track.

The glitz and glamour of Eurovision!

Our Boarders enjoyed the glitz and glamour of Eurovision as they hosted their own Eurovision Night. Everyone gathered to watch the spectacular performances from across Europe. Armed with scorecards, the boarders took their roles as judges very seriously—cheering on their favourite acts.

Year 9 Watch Performance of ‘Kindness’ by Voices of the Holocaust

Year 9 watched the performance of ‘Kindness’ by Voices of the Holocaust this week at the Bushey United Synagogue.

The play is based on the testimony (largely verbatim) of the Hungarian survivor Susan Pollack OBE, who was only 13 years old when she was sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944.

The production was an intensely moving piece of work and was an opportunity for Year 9 students to consider what they have been learning in the classroom through heartfelt storytelling.

Year 9’s Microscopic Project

In Textiles, Year 9 have been using the “thread trapping” technique of freehand machine embroidery on water-soluble fabric, these delicate, skeletal masterpieces are left behind.

Inspired by the legendary Meredith Woolnough, the result is a hauntingly beautiful, delicate structure that looks like it was grown, not made, mimicking the intricate veins of leaves and biological structures.

Step Back in Time with Year 8!

Year 8 headed to the Black Country Living Museum to see the Industrial Revolution in action, an immersive experience in 18th-century life. Highlights included:

• The Colliery: Learning the dangers of gas explosions “down the pit” and the grit of Victorian miners.
• The Nail Maker: Discovering the grueling 6-day weeks where workers made one nail every minute!
• Village Life: Visiting the General Store, the historical canal network and (of course) the sweet shop.
• Modern Comforts: The authentic back-to-back houses with cramped, rugged living conditions highlighted many modern conveniences taken for granted today.

Year 8 Visit the Pond and Find A Newt!

Year 8 used the science pond to learn about aquatic ecosystems and indicator species. The newt they spotted is either a smooth newt or a young great crested newt, both of which are protected species in the UK, so it’s great to see they have a good habitat at RMS.

They are voracious predators and eat tadpoles though, which means no baby frogs for us in this pond!

The Great Outdoors Club

Nothing beats the smell of fresh bread over an open fire! The Great Outdoors Club had delicious success with their campfire bread on a stick, with with reports of it being “the best bread they’ve ever had.”

The toppings got creative, with everything from Biscoff and chocolate spread to some legendary ‘pizza sticks’ with tomato sauce, pepperoni and melted cheese.

Have You Met Justin Timbersnake?

He is an albino corn snake, and the mascot of the Science Department! Snake club runs a weekly meet-and-greet for the RMS celebrity to say hello to his fans!

Year 8 Running for Megan Boxall

To show their support for recording breaking RMS Alumna, Megan (see story here), the whole of Year 8 hit the track in PE to try and reach a combined 200km, and they smashed their goal!

The Great Debate: RMS & MTS

Our Year 9s have joined forces with @merchanttaylorsschool for a cross-school debating challenge. There’s nothing like a fresh perspective to sharpen an argument.

We’re tackling one of the biggest questions of the digital age: Should the UK government place stricter limits on social media for under 16s?

Senior Students Succeeding in Computer Science

In the @uk_bebras Coding Challenge last term our students brought home outstanding results, competing against students across the entire country:

• 77 Distinctions (Top 25% nationally)
• 131 Merits
• 33 Gold Certificates (Top 10% nationally)

The 33 Gold Certificate achievers in the top 10% nationwide qualified for the the next level of the challenge, earning 6 Merits and 8 Distinctions. Huge congratulations to our Best in School champions: Lily in Year 6, Victoria in Year 8, and Laya in Year 10!

Herts Combined Athletics Events 2026

The sun was shining for our first big Athletics event of the summer. Congratulations on the RMS team coming 2nd in the Herts Combined Events 2026!

Rounders in the Sun!

Two sunny rounders games took place earlier this term vs Watford Girls. The Year 9s won 12-9.5, with Sidrah as MVP. The Year 10s narrowly lost and MVP went to Alina.

A glimpse into a recent barista workshop where our Sixth Form students stepped behind the counter in our very own café, The Hive, to learn the art of the perfect pour!

Alumna Emily Empowers our Sixth Formers

Huge thanks to school alumna Emily Boxall for returning to the Sixth Form earlier his term to lead an insightful session on personal finance.

At RMS we pride ourselves on listening to our students, and hearing that Sixth Formers want more focus on ‘real-life skills’, we were thrilled to welcome Emily to share her expertise. She introduced our students to her innovative app, @2minsapp which breaks down the complexities of money management into digestible, two-minute lessons.

Empowering our Sixth Formers with the tools they need for life beyond the classroom is our priority. It was fantastic to see our students so engaged in their financial future!

Loop & Lift Win Sustainability Award

The RMS Loop & Lift Young Enterprise team won the Sustainability Award at the Hertfordshire Final this week, with their mindfulness knitting kits. The team is a credit to RMS, leading the way into the future of business, innovation and leadership.

Making a splash on their last day, the weird and wonderful Year 13 aliens were armed and the teachers were hiding…

The ultimate masterclass for our aspiring architects!

Sixth Form Art and DT students climbed the scaffolding this week to tour the restoration of the Chapel. They got a rare behind-the-scenes look at the incredible collaboration required for a project of this scale, meeting:

• Conservation Architects preserving the listed heritage.
• Quantity Surveyors & Contract Administrators managing costs and operations.
• M&E Engineers hiding modern fire alarms and lighting so “nothing is seen, but everything works.”
• Bakers of Danbury, the specialist construction firm famous for working on sites like Westminster Abbey.

Everyone was in awe of the a once-in-a-lifetime view, seeing the original 1930s architectural drafts, touching the dome ceiling, and seeing the intricate hand-carved details up close.

For our hopeful future architects and surveyors, this was an invaluable, real-world look into the heritage conservation and construction industries. What an incredible way to inspire the next generation of architectural talent!

Geography Trip to Slapton Sands

Our Year 12 Geographers were down at Slapton Sands and Totnes recently, doing hands-on human and physical geography fieldwork analysing coastal processes and management.

Through rain and shine, They’ve shown incredible resilience, fantastic teamwork, and supported each other every step of the way – all with a great sense of humour (and some well-deserved local chips on the beach!).

End of an Era, Beginning of the Future

Class of 2026 gathered for a beautiful Leavers’ Dinner for a night of looking back, signing yearbooks, and plenty of tissues…

The emotional evening included heartfelt speeches from our Head Pupils, as they celebrated the immense journey that brought them to this moment, and looking ahead to what comes next.

To our brilliant Year 13s: you have left an amazing legacy on our school. We are so proud of the resilient, brilliant young women you have become, and as you head into your A-Levels, know that the entire RMS community is cheering you on!
