Lydia Smith, our current Artist-in-Residence at RMS for Girls, will be publishing a fortnightly creative column on our website and via our regular parents communications. The purpose of this column is to give insight and updates into the work that Lydia is doing here at RMS.
Dear Readers,
I’m starting this column differently, as it’s my final issue. This is a letter to all of you who have been following along—thank you so much. I hope you have enjoyed reading my thoughts and insights as much as I have enjoyed writing them. You can catch up with all previous editions here.
My time at RMS has truly been a remarkable experience. I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and students, who have treated me with kindness and respect
Teachers from many different departments popped out to see me whilst I was working behind Alex House, the Performing Arts Centre, and this made me feel included in the broader community of the school; I have had some lovely conversations in the staff dining hall – specifically the physics teachers! The curiosity of the girls will forever blow me away, alongside their can-do attitude when helping with the sculptures!
The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! The grand unveiling of the sculptures is just around the corner, scheduled for next Tuesday. I am filled with anticipation and would be delighted to meet as many of you as possible to share a detailed overview of the project.
I have some unique offerings available for RMS community members on the night, and as much as I’m looking forward to showing my work to you, I’m thrilled to exhibit the students’ sculptures so they can be seen and celebrated.
Some special thanks go to Kevin Carson, Maxine Nichols, Laura Hills, Emily Jewell, Billy Lees & the Estate Team, Ben Dear, and Oliva Critcher.
I'll keep this short and sweet, and I can't wait to see you on Tuesday!
Thank you so much,
Warmest wishes
Lydia
