Abi’s journey at The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS) began in Year 7, culminating in a standout performance in the Sixth Form. After earning A*A*A in Textiles, Sociology, and Geography, alongside an A* in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Abi is preparing to study International Development with Economics at the University of Bath.
Reflecting on her time at RMS, she credits the school’s unique balance of academic freedom and leadership opportunities for helping her flourish.
Developing Leadership and Creative Freedom
For Abi, Sixth Form was defined by hands-on opportunities to lead and innovate beyond the standard curriculum. Serving on the Pupil Leadership Team as Deputy Head and Head of Charities gave her a platform to make a meaningful impact on school culture.
“I particularly enjoyed organizing charity events, as it gave me the chance to get involved in school life in a different way, working with many different pupils and teachers and taking on more responsibility,” Abi says. “This really helped me to grow in confidence.”
Academically, the independence granted during her final years allowed her to deepen existing interests and discover new ones—from exploring Geography and Textiles to uncovering a passion for Sociology.
“I really enjoyed the freedom Sixth Form gave me to develop my interests, especially through my Textiles coursework, where I was able to be creative and explore ideas that interested me,” she shares. “I am definitely going to miss it!”
Guidance Through Complex Milestones
Juggling intensive practical coursework alongside core A-levels and an EPQ requires careful balance. Abi credits the dedicated faculty at RMS for providing steady encouragement every step of the way:

Coursework Management: Teachers provided regular 1-on-1 guidance as she balanced her Textiles portfolio, Geography NEA, and EPQ.

Higher Education Guidance: Staff delivered tailored advice throughout the university selection process and offered detailed feedback on her personal statement.

Engaging Classrooms: Interactive teaching methods ensured complex subjects remained engaging and accessible.
Looking Ahead to Bath
Recommending the experience to prospective students, Abi notes that the supportive atmosphere makes a pivotal difference: “Teachers make the subjects so enjoyable to learn about… This allows you to enjoy and make the most of school while still being supported in achieving your goals.”
Now, she looks forward to combining her core academic passions at the University of Bath.
“I’m particularly excited to study my subject, as it brings together my interests in both Geography and Sociology and will allow me to explore real-world social issues,” Abi says. “I’m also looking forward to university life and the many opportunities that come with it!”
