Looking back on her RMS journey, Mili says; “the move into Sixth Form is a major milestone, but reflecting on my time at RMS, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to grow.
Having been here since Year 7, concluding my journey with an A*AA in Sociology, Geography, and DT – alongside an A* in my EPQ – feels incredibly rewarding. Next stop: studying Sustainable Fashion at the University of Leeds!
Here is a look back at my experience, what made Sixth Form so transformative, and my advice for students preparing for their A-Levels.
The Freedom to Grow & Lead
The shift in dynamic during Sixth Form was immediately noticeable. Being treated as an adult gave me the space to develop critical life skills, like mastering time management and balancing heavy workloads during free periods.
Beyond academics, the leadership opportunities were a standout highlight:
-
Drill Captain: A personal goal of mine since Year 7 that taught me confidence and responsibility.
-
Marketing Director for Young Enterprise: A hands-on role that built real-world business and creative skills.
-
PHAB Charity Club Member: An invaluable experience that kept me connected to the wider community.
RMS constantly reminded us that school isn’t just about grades—it’s about holistic personal development.
A Support Network Like No Other
The transition to A-Levels can be intense, but the staff created an extraordinary safety net:
Academic Support: Subject teachers regularly scheduled 1-on-1 time to break down complex topics whenever I needed extra guidance.
Pastoral Support: Tutors and pastoral staff were always available for honest conversations, prioritizing my wellbeing alongside my studies.
Knowing I was surrounded by people who genuinely cared directly impacted both my mental health and my final results.
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
My upcoming course in Sustainable Fashion at Leeds feels like the perfect blend of my passions—combining the human and environmental focus of Geography with the creative design principles of DT. While I will deeply miss the familiar, friendly faces at RMS, the foundation I built here has given me total confidence to take on university life, meet new people, and embrace this next stage of independence.
For anyone deciding where to take their next steps: if you want a Sixth Form that pushes your academic potential while empowering you as an individual, there really is no better place than RMS.
Congratulations Mili, we can’t wait to see what your future holds!
