When Tara joined RMS in Year 7, she began a journey that would ultimately lead her to the University of Cambridge.
After securing 3 A*s in Religious Studies, History, and Sociology – along with full marks on her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) – she is preparing to study Theology, Religion, and the Philosophy of Religion at Selwyn College. Reflecting on her time at school, Tara credits the unique environment at RMS for helping her thrive both academically and personally.
An Environment Built on Curiosity and Community
For Tara, the defining feature of RMS Sixth Form was its welcoming, open-minded culture. Rather than focusing solely on rote learning, the environment encouraged active discussion and debate.
“I never felt that I had to find the ‘right’ answer. Instead, I was encouraged to question ideas, debate with my peers and teachers, and learn from different viewpoints,” Tara recalls. “I came into each lesson excited not only to learn, but to hear new perspectives and understand other people better.”
Her independent research during the EPQ proved to be another pivotal milestone, offering a taste of university-level study and solidifying her choice of degree.
“Being able to delve into my interests and have those conversations helped reaffirm my passion for my subjects, giving me greater confidence in shaping my UCAS application,” she explains.
Personalized Support for Neurodivergent Students
A crucial aspect of Tara’s success was the tailored support she received as a neurodivergent student. From academic adjustments to sports coaching, the faculty ensured her individual learning style was fully accommodated:

Dyslexia Support: Teachers consistently sourced reading materials in dyslexia-friendly fonts and clear layouts.

Dyspraxia Accommodations: Staff encouraged the use of assistive technology rather than insisting on traditional handwriting.

Adaptive Sports: Her netball coaches worked directly with her to adapt physical movements and build confidence on the court.
When faced with new health diagnoses during her final year, the school’s PALS support team and teaching staff provided a reassuring safety net.
“From PALS support in managing unexpected moments and routines, to teachers patiently answering my many questions, there was always someone willing to listen and help,” says Tara. “Even during my exams, teachers would check in with me right before I went into the room… Those little moments of care meant so much to me.”
Looking Forward to Cambridge
As she prepares for the step up to Selwyn College, Cambridge, Tara leaves behind a strong endorsement for future Sixth Form applicants, describing RMS as a place where “individuality is valued, and where you’re supported not just academically, but as a person.”
“RMS is 100% the place for anyone to become who they want to be,” Tara says. “I’m excited to keep asking questions, discovering new interests, and seeing where they take me!”
