Why Choose Our All Girls Prep School?
As a leading girls prep school in Hertfordshire, conveniently located in Rickmansworth, Cadogan House provides a nurturing environment where young girls build confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
We believe happy children achieve the most, which is why tailored individual care sits at the heart of our ethos—helping every pupil discover her unique voice.
"Many schools talk about an individualised learning approach; at RMS, we walk the talk."
— Mrs. Melanie Horn, Head of Cadogan House Prep School
A Place For Everybody
We seek to encourage a natural curiosity, enthusiasm and love of learning in every girl. Our wide and varied curriculum encourages excellence and empowers girls to reach their full potential. An array of themed days, visiting speakers and trips all help to bring classroom learning to life.
Developing Character
As they embark on their journey through Prep school, our girls develop the confidence to forge their own path and to celebrate their unique identity. They are welcoming and supportive of each other and enjoy celebrating each other’s success within our happy learning community. Our staff work in partnership with parents to maintain high standards of achievement and motivation; creating a supportive network for every girl.
PREP SCHOOL FAQs
WHICH YEAR GROUPS CAN MY DAUGHTER JOIN, AND WHEN IS BEST?
Girls can join Cadogan House in any year group (from Reception through to Year 6) and in any term during the academic year, subject to place availability.
With the rarest of exceptions, all Year 6 pupils at Cadogan House are guaranteed a place in our Senior School and move seamlessly into Year 7 without the need to sit the 11+ entrance exam to be selected (the exam must still be sat for the purpose of selecting the correct class for your child). Because of this automatic progression, demand for places in these year groups is extremely high, and space becomes increasingly limited as girls move up through the Prep School.
For this reason, joining RMS prior to Year 4 is strongly recommended to give your daughter the best chance of securing a place in Cadogan House and gaining automatic entry into Senior School.
If you are considering an application, we recommend booking a visit or registering via our Admissions Portal as early as possible. You can also get in touch with our Admissions Team at 01923 725354 or via email at admissions@rmsforgirls.com to check current availability for your daughter’s year group.
IS THERE AN ASSESSMENT FOR ENTRY?
Yes, entry assessments depend on the year group your daughter is joining:
- Reception: There is no formal assessment for entry into our Reception class. Instead, prospective Reception pupils are invited to join us for a friendly, play-based Taster Morning in January, where they are observed by our Early Years staff in a relaxed environment.
- Years 1 to 6: Entry into all other Prep year groups is by a more formal assessment, which takes place in January prior to September entry (or at a mutually agreed time for in-year applications).
To check specific dates for upcoming assessments, please visit our Key Admissions Dates page.
If you have any questions about what to expect or how to prepare, please contact our Admissions Team at 01923 725354 or via email at admissions@rmsforgirls.com.
WILL MY DAUGHTER AUTOMATICALLY MOVE TO THE SENIOR SCHOOL?
Yes! With the rarest of exceptions, all Year 6 pupils at Cadogan House are guaranteed a place in our Senior School and move seamlessly into Year 7.
Whilst entry to the Senior School is normally guaranteed, Year 6 pupils are required to sit the entrance assessments (alongside external candidates) as this helps us to select the correct class placement and ensure a tailored academic setup for Year 7. This removes the pressure of senior school selection while helping us hit the ground running with your daughter’s secondary education. Cadogan House pupils also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships at 11+, competing against external candidates for available awards.

WHAT DO THE FEES INCLUDE, AND IS WRAPAROUND CARE AVAILABLE?
Our termly tuition fees cover tuition, textbooks, essential learning materials, mid-morning snacks and hot lunches.
To support busy and working families, we offer flexible wraparound care options across all age groups:
- Breakfast Club: Available before the school day starts (from 8:00am) to ensure pupils get a healthy, nutritious start to the day.
- After-School & Tea Clubs: Supervised care and after-school clubs run until 6:00pm / 6:15pm, giving pupils a chance to relax, complete homework, engage in activities, or enjoy a hot cooked tea before going home.
- Co-Curricular Activities: We offer a wide range of extracurricular clubs after school, many of which are included in the tuition fee (with specialised external clubs or 1-on-1 tuition charged separately).
Wraparound care sessions can be booked on a regular termly basis or on an ad-hoc basis as needed.
For a detailed breakdown of current termly tuition fees and wraparound care costs, please visit our Fees Page.
CAN MY DAUGHTER BOARD AT PREP AGE?
Yes! Full and weekly boarding options are available for girls starting in Year 4.
We understand that sending a young child to board is a significant step, which is why we also offer flexi-boarding. Flexi-boarding allows pupils to stay overnight for a night or two each week—or on an ad-hoc basis—making it a gentle, flexible first step for younger girls. It is a fantastic option for families with busy work commitments, pupils taking part in early morning or late after-school clubs, or simply girls who want to enjoy a “sleepover” experience with their friends.
Our Prep boarders live in a warm, dedicated boarding house environment with specialised residential care staff who create a cosy, “home away from home” atmosphere tailored to younger children.
For details on our boarding facilities and options, please visit our Boarding Page or contact our Admissions Team at 01923 725354 / admissions@rmsforgirls.com.
