With an outstanding set of results (3 A*s and an A in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Further Maths) RMS student Kya is set to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bristol. Having been at RMS since Year 8, Kya reflects on her time in Hind House, her passion for STEM, and the support that helped her secure her place at vet school.

A Passion for STEM in the RMS Science Department

For Kya, the Sixth Form experience at RMS was defined by the opportunity to dive deep into the subjects she loved most. Studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Further Maths, she spent much of her time immersed in the Science department, where her natural curiosity was nurtured by dedicated teachers and top-class facilities.

“My favourite part of RMS Sixth Form was definitely being able to spend a lot of time in the science department and studying the subjects I am passionate about” says Kya.

Tailored Guidance for Competitive Pathways

Applying to study Veterinary Medicine is notoriously competitive, requiring not only top academic grades but also extensive preparation for interviews and admissions assessments. Through RMS’s tailored Futures programme and specialist support networks, Kya received thorough, step-by-step guidance throughout her application.

Crucial to her success was her involvement in the RMS MedVetDent Society, a student pathway group that provides aspiring medical, veterinary, and dental students with focused preparation, discussion forums, and mock interviews.

“RMS helped me a lot in preparing for my vet school application and interview processes. It was definitely helpful having such thorough guidance throughout my time in Sixth Form, especially being part of the MedVetDent society” Kya shares.

Advice for Future Sixth Formers: “Stay Curious!”

Reflecting on her years at RMS, Kya encourages younger students and prospective Sixth Formers to throw themselves into everything school life has to offer.

“To a student considering RMS Sixth Form, I would say: make the most of it! Take part in as many activities as you can, as there are so many opportunities to make new friends and broaden your horizons. Stay curious!”

Looking to the Future

As Kya prepares to pack her bags for one of the top destinations for this year’s RMS leavers, she is excited for the journey ahead.

“I’m really looking forward to becoming more independent, and most definitely to becoming a qualified vet in a few years!”

Everyone at RMS is immensely proud of Kya’s achievements. We wish her the very best as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her journey!
