On Saturday, 20th June, the RMS for Girls community came together for our annual Celebration Day – an event dedicated to celebrating the hard work, character, and diversity of our pupils.
The day started in The Great Hall with the Prize Giving ceremony for pupils in Years 7-9, opened by our Chair of Governors, Mr. Simon Staite. Our Headteacher, Mr. Kevin Carson, addressed the gathered families, highlighting not just academic excellence but the fundamental values that define all of our pupils.
Prizes were awarded for Outstanding Contribution to the Form; Courtesy, Dignity, and Kindness; and Perseverance and Assiduity. Subject awards recognised both high attainment and significant personal progress. The atmosphere was further uplifted by incredible musical performances, including show-stopping numbers from the cast of High School Musical Jr., beautiful vocal soloes, and moving performances by the RMSO and RMS Chorus, culminating in a powerful rendition of the ever-popular RMS School Hymn.
Following the ceremony, the site transformed into a vibrant showcase of student work and interactive departmental exhibitions. Pupils proudly guided their parents through a variety of hands-on activities. Visitors had the chance to step back in time with guided tours of the historical RMS Air Raid Shelter, explore the wonders of space in our newly equipped planetarium, or test their wits with the Maths Challenge Club.
Creativity was on full display: families crafted passive phone speakers in Design & Technology, moulded “RMS value emojis” out of cheese in Food & Nutrition, coded in Computer Science, and produced stunning cyanotype prints with the Photography Club.
From competitive parent-daughter badminton tournaments in PE to modern foreign language drama and Mandarin calligraphy, it was a brilliant day that reflected the energy, ambition, and community spirit that makes RMS for Girls so special.
