Last week, RMS was delighted to welcome Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire, to the School. The visit was part of Mr. Mohindra’s tour of eight local secondary schools to officially launch his highly anticipated annual essay competition.
Since his election in 2019, Mr. Mohindra has been a regular visitor to schools in the constituency, and his essay competition has become a feature of the academic year. This year’s challenge invites students to submit a piece of up to 1,000 words, focusing on depth of thought, clarity of argument, and originality.
During his visit, Mr. Mohindra spoke about the importance of youth engagement in current affairs, noting on social media that he was “hugely encouraged by the enthusiasm and ideas from students” across the area.
The competition is designed to test students' critical thinking, quality of writing and ideas. The winner of the competition will get the opportunity to do some work experience with me here in Parliament
- Gagan Mohindra MP
For our pupils, this competition offers a unique opportunity to:
- Demonstrate the ability to engage with complex, topical issues.
- Provide tangible evidence of analytical skills for Higher Education and personal statements.
- Compete for the incredible opportunity to undertake work experience at the Houses of Parliament.
We are incredibly proud of the intellectual curiosity our pupils show every day, and we are confident that the RMS entries will be of an exceptionally high standard.
We look forward to reading the insightful and persuasive arguments our pupils produce. Good luck to everyone taking part!
