A Thriving Jewish Life at RMS
We are very sorry to hear the news that Immanuel College will be closing this summer. We are here to support you and your daughter through this transition, and we invite you to book a private tour to see if RMS For Girls is the right fit for you.
We are proud to have a long-standing and thriving Jewish Society (JSoc). Our Jewish community is a vibrant, integral part of our student body, supported by staff who ensure traditions are not just respected, but celebrated.
-
Respecting the Calendar: Our curriculum and school diary are carefully planned to accommodate Jewish holidays. We ensure no required events—such as parents’ evenings or report releases—fall on the Sabbath or High Holy Days.
-
Cultural Continuity: We support students on the FZY Israel Tour and work closely with the Holocaust Educational Trust to mark Yom HaShoah annually.
-
Rabbinical Connection: We welcome a visiting Rabbi once a term to provide further guidance and connection for our students.
-
Exceptional Care: Beyond the classroom, our pastoral care, PALs (Peer Assistance Leaders) programme, and dedicated SEND department ensure every girl feels seen and supported.
A Personal Note of Support
The news of the Immanuel College closure is devastating, and we understand the weight of the decisions you are suddenly having to make. Please know that we are here, not just as a fellow independent school, but as friends who truly value the education and community Immanuel College provided.
At RMS For Girls, we are ready to offer a place of stability, care, and understanding for your daughter. While we are an inclusive, multi-faith school, we share the same deep-rooted respect for tradition, growth, and the moral values of Chesed (kindness) and excellence that you chose for your daughter at Immanuel College.
Your daughter will find a warm environment where her heritage is honored. We are here to listen and to make this transition as gentle as possible for your family.
We know time is of the essence. Our admissions team is standing by to speak with Immanuel College families regarding both day and boarding places.

Meet Sophia Hardy: Jewish Leadership at RMS
RMS’ warm, supportive and ambitious community means so much more than you might think. It isn’t just a family community to which you can belong. It is a place where young people are encouraged and supported to explore and understand their culture, their values and the contribution they can make to the world.
As a Jewish member of the leadership team at RMS, I have the privilege of seeing the way we make space for our Jewish community to thrive, to be brave and vocal, and to be a vital part of how we work. I am particularly passionate about the way in which our students learn to work collaboratively across cultural and faith backgrounds, preparing them wonderfully to be strong women, guided by their values, their faith and their strong sense of identity, in the wider world beyond our school.
For our Jewish pupils, this support is seen in the way we create time and space for them and their families, by never scheduling a required parent or pupil event on a Friday evening, so that we can honour Shabbat. Or the way in which we are very careful to ensure our trips, events and communications align with Chaggim in such a way as to respect and support our pupils to live a full spiritual life.
It is in the special menus we enjoy to share our sweet treats on Rosh Hashanah, or the way we celebrate our Bat Mitzvah girls with love and shared joy as they prepare for their big day. I love the way Jewish festivals are celebrated with our community, and I am proud when our students stand alongside others to share their passion, ideas and drive for Tikkun Olam, or gather to collectively learn about and remember the Shoah.
RMS is a wonderful and safe environment to learn and grow as a young person and I am immensely proud of the way our Jewish pupils truly thrive as part of our diverse community.
I would be very happy to speak to anyone interested in sending their daughter to RMS.

Meet Jessica Bergman: A Jewish Perspective on RMS Life
As a Jewish student who joined RMS at the age of seven and stayed through to the end of Sixth Form, I have experienced first-hand how this school nurtures both academic ambition and cultural identity. My sister and I both studied and boarded here, and today, I am proud to be back as a member of the English Department.
Growing up at RMS, I never felt I had to compromise on my heritage. I understand how vital it is for Jewish families to see their values and traditions truly understood within their daughters’ school. Having walked these corridors as a student and now as a teacher, I would be happy to share my personal journey or answer any questions you might have about Jewish life and our vibrant JSoc at RMS.

Meet Deborah Clayden - Head of JSoc
Having spent over six happy years teaching at Immanuel College (2017-2023), I was very saddened to hear of its closure. Once you have been a part of the Immanuel family, you remain part of it for life. RMS has that same family feeling. Now in my third year of teaching French and Spanish here, I can say that the attention to the individual student is exceptional and the atmosphere is calm yet fun and positive.
I took over the running of JSoc in my second year here, and it is now a thriving hub of activity, with support from the UJS (Union of Jewish Students) who supply our pizza and occasional speakers too. Highlights have been our Year 7 Bat mitzvah where the whole year group celebrated the Jewish students in their rite of passage and danced the Moshiach (all 100 girls plus teachers and even the headmaster!), our Pesach seder, our Purim and Chanukah parties, our Tu Bishvat fruit art activity and our stall at the cultural diversity fair where our large Israeli flag waved proudly for all to see.
I would be very happy to speak to anyone interested in sending their daughter to RMS.

Future Opportunities
Meet The Head
“RMS is committed to educating young women to be creative, enthusiastic and generous contributors to an ever changing world.”
“On behalf of our whole school community, I am delighted to welcome you to RMS for Girls.”
We have proudly educated girls since 1788. Our history is long and distinguished, but our focus is firmly on the future, and we never stop questioning what skills and attributes young women need to thrive in the 21st century. This pursuit of innovation and excellence, combined with a relentless commitment to educating the whole person, is what defines an RMS education today.
Life at RMS is designed for and around our students, and their capacity to learn, lead, express themselves and build deep relationships with their friends never fails to impress us. Our academic vision is ambitious and innovative, and we are wholly committed to the pursuit of excellence. Through our broad and exciting co-curricular programme, we provide ample opportunity for girls to explore their passions and find their niche. Most importantly of all, we provide exceptional, pupil-centric pastoral care. RMS is a genuinely kind school; one that understands life isn’t always easy.
So who is an RMS girl? The girls who thrive here are enthusiastic and get stuck in. They are active learners who readily hone their talents and they are resilient and warm-hearted; characterised by integrity rather than entitlement. It would be unfair to expect all of this from the off, but with the support of our experienced, dedicated and kind staff, they will become young women that we are all proud of.
It is a great honour to be Headteacher of this wonderful school, and I warmly invite you to come and experience the Royal Masonic School for Girls for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Kevin Carson
Headteacher
