A Message from Mr Carson
Welcome to The Rewind, our half-termly opportunity for parents to peek through a window into life across many areas of school at RMS.
There is so much to read in this issue, but I am going to pick out a few highlights featuring former RMS pupils: our fabulous alumnae! We often say that every RMS student heads out on their own unique successful future, and this issue illustrates that perfectly. You can read about the PGA Assistant Golf Pro of the Year in America, Sophie from the class of 2017; Emily, the co-founder of MicroFact, in working with RMS students on her latest app covering financial literacy; and Anoushka, recently listed as one of edie's "30 under 30" individuals who are changing the course of climate action.
This workplace success doesn't happen by accident: Miss Pickford continually has workplace visitors in with students as part of her weekly Futures Fridays, we regularly take students out for workplace experience such as the recent immersive trip to The Grove, and we have visiting guests in from Laura Silverstone covering conservation to Dame Prue Leith opening our latest state-of-the-art kitchen (all of which you can read about here too!).
There is, as ever, the cliched "much, much more", but I will stop my spoilers and leave you to enjoy the rest of Rewind for yourself.
All best wishes,
Kevin Carson

Dame Prue Leith Visits RMS
There was a wonderful sense of anticipation across the school last week as we welcomed a true visionary to RMS.
We were delighted to host Dame Prue Leith for the official opening of our brand-new professional kitchen — a centrepiece of our partnership with her Academy and a vibrant new space where our pupils can truly thrive.
New Podcast Episode Available Now
How is AI actually changing the way we learn?
In this episode of Stirred by the Sun, student hosts Aroush and Becca, along with Headteacher Mr. Carson, sit down with Mrs. Roberts (Digital Strategy Lead), Miss Chilton (Head of Business Studies), and Year 13 student Zahra to pull back the curtain on AI at RMS.
From the "overwhelming" early days of ChatGPT (1:25) to using tools like Google Gemini (13:25) and Notebook LM (14:54) for revision, the panel discusses the environmental impact of a prompt, the "creativity gap" in AI (20:09), and why human connection - and a teacher’s energy - is something a computer can never replicate (24:02).

Amber Brigham Textiles Workshop
Last Thursday, our Year 10 and 12 Textiles students explored rug tufting in a workshop led by artist Amber Brigham. 🧶
The session focused on the use of tufting guns to achieve unique texture and depth, allowing students to see how mechanical tools can enhance fine art. The students successfully transformed their 2D concepts into 3D rug designs by experimenting with pile heights and carving into the wool. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine traditional skills with modern industrial practices.

Year 8 Netball Team Through to County Plate Final!
Congratulations to the Year 8 Netball team, who are now through to the County Plate Final after a tremendous performance against a strong Sandringham team 💪

Year 9 Crack the Code!
Earlier this term, in Computer Science, our Year 9 pupils turned into mini-cryptographers! They solved a series of CS clues to unlock the mystery combination to these cash boxes. No cold hard cash inside (sorry Year 9!), but plenty of teamwork, treats, and logic-leaping fun.

Jsoc Celebrate Tu bishvat
During a Jsoc club session this term, pupils from all faiths and none marked Tu Bishvat, the “New Year for Trees,” with a feast of 15 different types of fruit and a creative fruit art session. 🍓🎨
It was great to take a moment to discuss our connection to nature, how different cultures celebrate the environment, and the vital role trees play in our world. 🌎✨

Year 6 Battle of Britain Bunker Visit
Year 6 pupils visited the @bofbbunker in Uxbridge earlier this week to bring their WWII studies to life. From the iconic Operations Room to the ‘History Explorers’ workshop, pupils dived deep into history that shaped the world.
Highlights of the day included:
🕵️♀️ Analysing authentic wartime objects.
🗺️ Exploring the Visitor Centre on a guided trail.
🔦 A private tour of the bunker itself!
It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning. Huge thanks to the team at the bunker for such an immersive experience.

Year 4 Football Teams Getting Stuck In
Our Year 4 football teams have been getting stuck in and scoring plenty of goals. One highlight was a very convincing win of 10-0 against Habs! Well done Freya, Heidi and Khira for POMs – and some outstanding goals from Alannah and Georgia. 👍👏
A Busy Time for Cross Country
A recent event at York House School hosted some of our pupils from Year 4-8 as they took on the mud! Despite the wind and rain, it was smiles all round – RMS being crowned overall winners. Terrific runs from Heidi and Georgia in Year 4. Flora and Grace (Year 6) also ran with grit and will be representing RMS at the County Championships this weekend 👏🍀🏃♀️ Lara and Emilia are bringing home some medals as well for Y8 👍

Happy Lunar New Year!
Our Cadogan House pupils gave fantastic presentations to their peers last week to mark the Lunar New Year. They shared the traditions, importance, and their own personal family experiences. We are so proud of our pupils for sharing with such confidence! Wishing our whole community a prosperous year ahead. ✨

Introducing Miss Stephens
A Housemistress’s Introduction: A Commitment to Zetland
In September this year, I took on the role of Housemistress for Zetland, and I would like to assure you of my absolute commitment to the welfare and development of every girl in the House. It is a significant professional responsibility, and one I approach with dedication.
My professional focus has always been in pastoral care and education. I believe in cultivating an environment where young people are supported to achieve their best outcomes, both academically and personally. Joining RMS, with its strong emphasis on kindness, integrity, and responsibility, aligns precisely with these professional values.
Years 10 & 11: Focused Support
Zetland is home to our girls during the pivotal Years 10 and 11. These are crucial years where they balance their GCSE studies with the necessary task of growing in independence. My priority is to ensure Zetland remains a stable, supportive, and effective ‘home from home’—a base from which the girls can confidently navigate this period of development.
To the girls: Zetland is your community, and I am focused on maintaining a constructive and respectful atmosphere. We have excellent facilities, and I encourage you to make full use of our spaces, from the study areas to the common room and garden. As your Housemistress, I will ensure that the house structure is one of fairness and high standards, where you are fully supported to meet your commitments and pursue your interests.
A Partnership in Pastoral Care
To the parents: Please be assured that the welfare and safety of your daughters are my utmost priority. I am here to do my level best to ensure they receive the highest standard of pastoral care. Working alongside our dedicated resident team, I will provide the careful guidance and structure needed for the girls to develop resilience, strong character, and a sense of responsibility.
I look forward to establishing an effective working partnership with you. Open and honest communication is essential, and I am readily available to discuss any aspect of your daughter’s life and progress here at RMS.
I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Introducing Miss Summers
Introducing Miss Summers
Hello! I am Miss Summers, and I am delighted to have joined the RMS family back in September as the Housemistress of Connaught House and a Teacher of Psychology and Sociology.
Before joining RMS, I spent time as a Housemistress and assistant housemistress at a boarding school in Gloucestershire, having previously been a boarding tutor at a school in Surrey, and so boarding has always felt like home to me.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy travelling and music both of which I was able to embrace on my recent trip around Texas! I live in Connaught with my Cocker Spaniel Aero, and we both agree that RMS offers the best grounds for a nice walk and fresh air.
The thing I am enjoying most about RMS is the genuine sense of community; everyone has been incredibly welcoming. It is a wonderful environment for the girls, and all of us who are lucky to live and work here. I am very much looking forward to seeing what the girls achieve this year!

Celebrating Our Outstanding EPQ Results
At RMS, we believe that every individual thrives when they are given the space to follow their passions and the support to challenge themselves. This week, we are shining a light on a group of students who have done exactly that.
We are absolutely delighted to share the exceptional Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) results achieved by 21 of our wonderful Year 13 students. Their hard work, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity have led to a truly marvellous set of outcomes.
