A Personal Note of Support

As a former member of the St Lawrence College staff for 8 years, a parent there for 9 years, and with a sister who attended throughout the 80s and 90s, this is a community that is incredibly special to me. I know the school inside out, and my heart goes out to every family dealing with the shock of this sudden closure.

The news of the closure is devastating, and as a parent and former colleague, I understand the weight of the decisions you are suddenly having to make. Please know that we are here, not just as a fellow boarding school, but as friends who truly value the education and community SLC provided.

At RMS For Girls, we are ready to offer a place of stability, care, and understanding for your daughter. We are a community that shares the same values of kindness and excellence that you chose for your children at St Lawrence. We are here to listen, to help, and to make this transition as gentle as possible for your family.

We know time is of the essence. Our admissions team is standing by to prioritise SLC families and answer any questions you have regarding boarding or day places.

A New Home for Girls Boarding

We recognise that moving from Kent to Hertfordshire is a consideration. However, for families seeking a boarding school that matches the scale, heritage, and values-driven education of St Lawrence College, RMS offers a unique continuity of experience. We are offering priority tours and virtual meetings for SLC families this week to make the process as easy as possible.

  • Transport Links: We are exceptionally well-connected and easy to reach, situated just 5 minutes from the M25 (J18), 20 minutes from London Heathrow, and a short walk from Rickmansworth Station with direct 30-minute links to Central London.
  • Immediate Availability: We are fast-tracking applications for SLC families to provide certainty as quickly as possible.

  • Pastoral Continuity: Our staff are briefed on the situation and are ready to provide the extra emotional support needed for girls joining us mid-year or under these circumstances.

Location & Accessibility

While we are set in 300 acres of peaceful parkland, we are exceptionally well-connected for our boarding families.

  • By Train: We are just a 10-minute walk from Rickmansworth Station. From there, you can reach Central London (Marylebone or Baker Street) in just 22–30 minutes, making travel for family visits or exeat weekends incredibly simple.

  • By Air: For our international families or those traveling from further afield, we are ideally situated just 20 minutes (23km) from London Heathrow.

  • By Car: We are conveniently located just 5 minutes from Junction 18 of the M25, providing easy road access from across the Southeast.

Future Opportunities

Our Alumnae…

Meet The Head

“RMS is committed to educating young women to be creative, enthusiastic and generous contributors to an ever changing world.”

“On behalf of our whole school community, I am delighted to welcome you to RMS for Girls.”

We have proudly educated girls since 1788. Our history is long and distinguished, but our focus is firmly on the future, and we never stop questioning what skills and attributes young women need to thrive in the 21st century. This pursuit of innovation and excellence, combined with a relentless commitment to educating the whole person, is what defines an RMS education today.

Life at RMS is designed for and around our students, and their capacity to learn, lead, express themselves and build deep relationships with their friends never fails to impress us. Our academic vision is ambitious and innovative, and we are wholly committed to the pursuit of excellence. Through our broad and exciting co-curricular programme, we provide ample opportunity for girls to explore their passions and find their niche. Most importantly of all, we provide exceptional, pupil-centric pastoral care. RMS is a genuinely kind school; one that understands life isn’t always easy.

So who is an RMS girl? The girls who thrive here are enthusiastic and get stuck in. They are active learners who readily hone their talents and they are resilient and warm-hearted; characterised by integrity rather than entitlement. It would be unfair to expect all of this from the off, but with the support of our experienced, dedicated and kind staff, they will become young women that we are all proud of.

It is a great honour to be Headteacher of this wonderful school, and I warmly invite you to come and experience the Royal Masonic School for Girls for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

ISI Inspection 2026

RMS for Girls fully met all standards in our Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection in February 2026.

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the dedication of our staff, the engagement of our pupils, and the strength of our entire school community. This result confirms that RMS remains a place where girls flourish both academically and personally.
