General information
Timings and tours: Whole School Open Day slots are scheduled from 9:30am to 11:30am and 11.30am to 1:30pm. Upon arrival at the beginning of your chosen time slot, you will be taken on a guided tour by some of our pupils, who will then deliver you to either The Cadogan House Hall or The Great Hall to hear a speech from Mrs Melanie Horn (Head of Cadogan House) or Mr Kevin Carson (Headteacher of RMS for Girls).
Speeches: Mrs Melanie Horn (Head of Cadogan House) will be giving a speech to parents at 10.30am and 12.30pm in The Cadogan House Hall. Mr Kevin Carson (Headteacher of RMS for Girls) will be giving a speech to parents at 11am and 1pm in The Great Hall in the main Senior School building.
Refreshments: Refreshments will be available immediately after the speeches, in either the main school Dining Hall (Senior School) or The Cadogan House Hall (Cadogan House).
If you are visiting our Nursery: You will meet our Ruspini House staff, including Mrs Vicky Grieg (Head of Ruspini House) at the door of our Nursery, and be taken on a guided tour and enjoy refreshments within the Nursery site. We may be able to arrange a further tour of our Prep School, Cadogan House, upon request on the day.
On the day
Science & Technology
- Biology (Lab 10): Participate in a crime scene investigation, guess what’s under the microscope, and identify a skeleton.
- Physics (Lab 26): See a Reuben’s tube, investigate craters, and learn about circuits, solar panels, and wave machines.
- Chemistry (Planetarium): Watch demos, including distilling esters from Cherry Cola, cation tests, and the “Screaming Jelly Baby” experiment.
- Computer Science (Lab 35): Take part in a “Big Trak bots Grand Prix” coding challenge and match computer parts to their names.
- Design & Technology (D&T1): Students will be soldering and using a heat press to create colour-changing lamps, and you can interact with various pieces in the room.
- Photography (Scarbrough Photo Stud): Ask questions using “question sticks” and vote on an exhibition.
- Textiles (Textiles Rooms): Engage with question sticks and vote on an exhibition.
Arts & Humanities
- Drama (Drama Studio, Dance): Watch rehearsals for Hamlet.
- English (Rooms 16 & 18): Try on hats from literature, play a Scrabble game, and create poetry using lines from existing works.
- Latin/Classics (Room 7): Learn to write in Greek and Latin, and test your knowledge with a Latin quiz.
- History (Room 10): Design your own history curriculum, match monarchs to a specific year, and connect foods to their origins.
- Religious & Ethical Studies (Room 12): Participate in activities like “religious Come Dine with Me” and bracelet making.
- Music (Alex House 1st Floor): Listen to performances from a Year 7 singing group and a Piano Trio.
- Art (Art Rooms): Use question sticks and vote on an exhibition.
There will be tours of our Visual Arts Exhibition taking place at 11:45am and 13:45pm from the Senior School Dining Hall.
Other Subjects & Activities
- Food & Nutrition (F&N1): Taste various scones made by Year 7 students, served with RMS honey. Dairy-free and gluten-free options will be available.
- Futures (Futures Zone, Weybridge): Participate in a creative enterprise activity, play “Careers Top Trumps,” or discover what kind of “frog” you are.
- Geography (Room 11): Help with a Lego mapping task and an OS map task.
- Maths (Room 9): Solve Ken Kens Puzzles and get a take-away Maths Activity booklet. There will also be a Rubik’s Cube Club.
- Modern Foreign Languages (Rooms 2 & 3): Try Chinese calligraphy in Room 2, and in Room 3, participate in Spanish and French activities like a photo booth and a number game.
- Psychology/Sociology (Hind House Common Room): Play the Stroop Effect game.
- Resource Centre (Resource Centre): New fiction and non-fiction books will be on display. The PALs team will be available to talk with parents and pupils.
