The grounds of Ruspini House was transformed into a sea of sunshine and smiles on Wednesday as we had the distinct honour of hosting Springfest 2026.

This wasn’t just any celebration; it marked a monumental milestone – 20 years of Playskill, a charity that has become a cornerstone of support for families across Hertfordshire.

As the designated charity of the year for both RMS and Ruspini House, our pupils have championed Playskill’s mission throughout the year with everything from competitive charity netball matches to bake sales. Continuing our support by hosting such a joyous event on our own 300-acre estate was a proud moment.

A Reunion Two Decades in the Making

More than 200 guests joined the festivities, and the crowd included current families and staff, but also a poignant connection to the past: members of the very first pilot group from 2006.

The significance of the day was echoed by the guest speakers. Andrea Clarke, Playskill’s founder, stood alongside CEO Niki Michael to reflect on two decades of life-changing work. They were joined by Peter Taylor, Mayor of Watford, and Catherine McArevey, Mayor of Dacorum, both of whom praised the vital role Playskill plays in empowering children with physical disabilities.

I loved joining everyone celebrating 20 years of Playskill yesterday. Playskill is a brilliant charity.

Inclusive Play in the Great Outdoors

Despite the scale of the 20th-anniversary event, the atmosphere remained intimate and family-focused. From hook-a-duck and Easter crafts to a interactive Gruffalo performance, the stunning grounds of RMS for Girls were transformed into a festival atmosphere. The goal was simple: ensure every child, regardless of physical ability, could experience the pure joy of play. Guests enjoyed:

  • Football for All: Former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack joined The GSSA to lead inclusive football sessions.
  • Sensory Exploration: Speech and Language Therapy students facilitated sensory story mats and “tuff trays” filled with textures.
  • Creative Arts: High-energy performances by Herts Inclusive Theatre kept the crowds entertained.
  • Community Spirit: Guests enjoyed a visit from the Three Rivers Police, games from the Boys’ Brigade, and an essential supply of sausage rolls from Wenzel’s.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Ruspini House and Playskill share the belief that every child deserves a sensory-rich, nurturing environment to reach their full potential. Finishing with the touching ceremony of cutting the 20th-anniversary cake, the day was a beautiful reminder of what can be achieved when a like-minded community comes together.

The celebrations continue throughout April! As Playskill marks its official birthday month, we look forward to continuing our fundraising efforts and supporting their incredible work.
