On Monday evening, the New Mark Hall was transformed into a space of warmth, vibrant culture, and shared reflection as we hosted our annual RMS Community Iftar.
Bringing together students, families, and staff, the event celebrated the Holy Month of Ramadan – a period dedicated to prayer, charity, and personal growth.
Attendees had the privilege of viewing the stunning work of artist Siddiqa Juma, whose intricate Islamic art provided a beautiful backdrop for the night. Alongside the art, guests explored displays of traditional Islamic clothing and enjoyed the artistry of live henna designs.
The heart of the evening lay in the personal reflections shared by our students. They spoke candidly and eloquently about what Ramadan means to them, touching on:
- Personal Growth: The discipline and gratitude found through fasting.
- The Power of Charity: The importance of looking outward to support others.
- Community: The reality of life during the Holy Month and the strength found in family.
These stories are vital in challenging assumptions and encouraging a deeper understanding of the diverse experiences within the RMS community.
As the sun set, the call to prayer marked the end of the fast. In a powerful moment of unity, the entire hall gathered to share dates and a delicious vegetarian meal. This communal breaking of the fast – the Iftar – perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the evening: togetherness and mutual respect.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the parents whose generosity and dedication made this evening possible, the teachers for their unwavering support, and, most importantly, our students for their courage in sharing their stories.
