It’s been a busy week of hands-on discovery at RMS!

Here’s a quick look at how our pupils have been exploring the world around them:

Chocolate & Calcium
Our Junior Scholars (Years 7 & 9) dived into the science of bone structure and osteoporosis. To understand how density affects strength, a key concern for both medical patients and astronauts, students designed their own stress tests using different types of chocolate. It was a fantastic (and delicious) exercise in experimental design and creative thinking.

Conservation in Action
We were thrilled to welcome Laura Silverstone from the River Chess Association to discuss the vital importance of local chalk streams and trout. RMS is proud to take part in the Trout Project, looking after our own trout and releasing them into the wild. This marks our 6th year taking part in the Project, but it’s a special one: for the first time, our pupils are raising the trout all the way from eggs to alevins. A dedicated team of volunteers from Years 8–13 is now managing their daily care until we release them into the River Chess this May.

Whether in the lab or by the riverbank, our pupils continue to prove that science is best learned through action. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the May release!
