Article by Year 13 Marketing Prefect, Sophie

As part of this year’s Pupil Leadership Team Aim – ‘Thrive in the Hive’, we have launched a new rewards initiative named Repop (a play on Depop) designed to celebrate students earning the highest number of alphas during each term at school.

Selected students from each year group have the opportunity to ‘spend’ their alphas on a range of prizes at the Alpha Market. This will be held in the Sixth form board room, during form times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from Wednesday 4th March to Friday 13th March.

Students invited to participate visit the Alpha Market on their allocated day, where members of the PLT confirm their alpha balance and issue them with an Alpha Dollar. They then get the opportunity to choose from a variety of tangible rewards including fun experiences like playing a song in assembly, or even nominating a teacher to be pied! Other privileges typically reserved for sixth form students have been made available, such as drink vouchers for the sixth form cafe, an early lunch pass for one (plus a friend), or being allowed to wear their hair down for the day.

All these prizes were based on a survey of what students wanted to see the most – you asked, and we delivered! To ensure our system is fair, each prize is placed in a tier where the larger or more ‘exclusive’ the prize is, the more alphas will be needed to purchase it. But we couldn’t let the younger years have all the fun! So, the Prefect Team running Repop will be dressing up with Bee Headbands, PLT robes and cardboard ‘alpha’ chains – you won’t be able to miss us.

Our main motivation behind Repop was to further incentivise senior school students to earn as many alphas as they can through exceptional pieces of class or homework, and being rewarded for showing the school values in their actions throughout their time at RMS. Also, we all love some healthy competition!

For the PLT, developing Repop has allowed us to demonstrate resilience in facing logistical setbacks, as developing the concept for Repop went through many initial stages before the final result, and also gave us an opportunity to get to know and interact with pupils lower down in the school on a more regular basis. We hope you all enjoy!
