In our recent episode of Stirred By The Sun, we had the chance to glimpse inside Cadogan House at RMS for Girls, hearing from the leaders and pupils of our Prep School about what makes it such a unique and nurturing environment. Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights.

A Journey to Cadogan

Mrs. Horn’s connection to Cadogan House is especially meaningful as a former pupil who now leads the school. “I love being back where I started from my schooling time,” she shared. Mrs. Forrest-Ratcliffe, who came to the school after her daughter’s positive experience, also reflected on her path from the classroom to a leadership role.

What Makes Cadogan Special?

Both Mrs. Horn and Mrs. Forrest-Ratcliffe spoke about the school’s dedication to personalised learning and its sense of community. Mrs. Horn, in particular, loves spending time with the students: “I had a lovely time on Friday swinging on the swings!” She also highlighted how Mrs. Faulder, Cadogan Secretary, knows every student by name, a small but powerful way the school makes every pupil feel valued.

Year 6: Responsibilities and Challenges

Year 6 pupils Kira and Laila have really enjoyed stepping into leadership roles, from guiding younger children around the school, “We have to take younger years back from lunch to make sure they don’t get lost,” Kira explained, to facing the challenges of their annual residential trip. Mrs. Horn will be joining them on the trip, and shared how she hopes to set a strong example by facing the challenges alongside her students.

A Day in the Life

There’s no such thing as a “typical day” at Cadogan, according to Mrs. Forrest-Ratcliffe. Her days vary from dealing with tadpoles to playing football with Year 1s, keeping things dynamic and fun.

Preparing for the Big Move

Kira and Laila shared their thoughts about transitioning to the Senior School, mixing excitement and a little nervousness. Mrs. Horn and Mrs. Forrest-Ratcliffe spoke about how they ease this transition, offering support and familiarising the students with their new environment.

Words of Wisdom and Life Skills

When asked about the best advice they’d ever given a student, Mrs. Forrest-Ratcliffe encouraged pupils to simply “be yourself,” while Mrs. Horn urged students to step out of their comfort zones. The interview also covered the school’s enrichment programme, where students participate in activities like nature walks and scavenger hunts, as well as the excellent forest school sessions – RMSGO.
