There is no ‘one right route’ for everyone. That was the central message of our recent Sixth Form LEAD Employability session, featuring a brilliant talk by alumna Ruby Williams (Savills) and Alison Moore (University of Hertfordshire).
The session offered a transparent look at the University vs. Apprenticeship debate. Ruby shared her journey into a Degree Apprenticeship in Digital Design with Savills, a path that has clearly allowed her to thrive as she earned a 1st Class Honours.
Miss Pickford, our Head of Futures, noted: “Hearing Ruby’s genuine passion… confirmed that this was absolutely 100% the right path for her. She has a promising career ahead, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
Alison highlighted that while degree apprenticeships are “vastly more competitive” to secure, they offer the best of both worlds: the same degree as full-time study, plus three years of professional experience and an expanding range of attractive salaries.
The takeaway for our students was that the “right” decision isn’t found in a brochure; it comes from students understanding their own values and strengths before leaving school.
At RMS, we don’t push a one-size-fits-all agenda. Instead, as Miss Pickford puts it:
I love working at a school where we genuinely celebrate every student's decision as they shape their own unique future
The RMS LEAD Employability course runs throughout Year 12, bringing in sector specialists to ensure our students are well-prepared for the recruitment processes of tomorrow.
Thank you to Ruby and Alison for empowering our Sixth Formers to step into their futures with confidence.
