We caught up with Mirabelle, Class of 2021, to hear more about an exciting career post-RMS. Initially set on a path towards medicine, unexpected opportunities led to the world of model booking and casting. Now a Women’s Model Booker at Story Model Management, a background in Biomedical Sciences provides a unique edge in the fast-paced fashion industry.

My name is Mirabelle, and my journey has been a unique blend of science and creativity. I attended RMS from Year 7 and completed my A-Levels in 2021. I then pursued a Biomedical Sciences degree at the University of Reading, graduating in 2024 with a 2:1. While I initially intended to pursue a postgraduate degree in medicine to become a GP, my career took an unexpected yet exciting turn.

During my university holidays, I interned at Forte Model Management, which sparked my enthusiasm for the industry. As I gained more experience, I started working full-time in my final year of university, balancing my studies with my career in fashion. Over time, I transitioned fully into booking, and casting, working with brands such as Burberry. Additionally, I had the privilege of working with some of the top casting agencies in Europe, including Ben Grimes and AAMO Casting.

I am now a Women’s Model Booker at Story Model Management, where I continue to develop my expertise in the industry. This blend of disciplines has given me a distinctive edge, allowing me to approach the modelling industry with both analytical precision and structured organisation.

What drew you to Biomedical Sciences, and how has your degree influenced your approach to working in the modelling and casting industry?

I initially pursued Biomedical Sciences with the intention of continuing to a postgraduate degree in medicine, as I aspired to become a GP. However, after interning and later working full-time in model booking and casting, I fell in love with the industry. I found that it played on my natural strengths—organisation, negotiation, and relationship-building—and allowed me to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

My degree refined my ability to think critically, manage data efficiently, and maintain a meticulous approach—skills that now seamlessly enhance my work in the modelling and casting industry. From handling visas and contracts to scouting models and negotiating rates, my background in science helps me stay detail-oriented and analytical, ensuring the best outcomes for both my models and clients.

Being featured in Apple’s Watch Ultra 2 launch campaign and LVMH’s Paris Olympics Campaign is an incredible achievement! Can you tell us about that experience and what it meant to you?

Being part of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 campaign and the LVMH 2024 Paris Olympics campaign was an incredible opportunity. It allowed me to merge my job with one of my greatest passions—Swimming. Working on these global campaigns gave me the chance to collaborate with some of the best creatives in the industry and witness the behind-the-scenes process of bringing a brand’s vision to life. Seeing the final results and knowing that I played a role in such prestigious projects was an incredibly rewarding experience, reinforcing my love for the industry and the diverse opportunities it offers.

The modelling and casting industry is known for its fast-paced and high-pressure environment. How do you stay organised and maintain accuracy while working under pressure?

Staying organised in a high-pressure industry requires a combination of strategic planning and adaptability. I rely on structured systems, such as MediaSlide for managing my models charts and Visa’s and Excel for tracking financials. Prioritising tasks effectively, responding swiftly to last-minute changes, and maintaining strong communication with models and clients are essential. I also believe in fostering a supportive team environment—whether through regular team lunches or mentorship—so that everyone feels confident in handling high-pressure situations together.

What advice would you give to RMS students interested in breaking into creative industries like fashion, modelling, or casting?

My biggest advice is to take initiative and create opportunities for yourself. Whether that means starting your own project, networking through social media, or reaching out to industry professionals for insights, being proactive is key! Persistence is crucial—rejections are part of the process, but each one is a step closer to success. Also, don’t underestimate the value of research; understanding the model trends and professional standards can set you apart from the competition. Finally, be kind and professional—strong relationships and a good reputation will take you far.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future, and how do you see your career evolving in the industry?

Looking ahead, I would love to take on a leadership role where I can teach and mentor others in the industry, sharing my knowledge and helping the next generation of model bookers and casting directors.

It was an honour to cast for Daniel Lee’s first Burberry show (AW23), and I hope to continue casting for high-fashion brands. I also aspire to expand my work internationally, particularly in Paris, where I would love to collaborate with renowned fashion houses such as Chanel. The industry is ever evolving, and I am excited to grow alongside it, taking on new challenges and opportunities as they arise.

Mirabelle’s story highlights the value of adaptability and pursuing passions beyond traditional paths. From casting for Burberry’s AW23 show to working on global campaigns, the journey so far has been filled with incredible milestones. With aspirations to mentor future talent and expand internationally, this is only the beginning.
