This morning, Cadogan House Hall was transformed into the vibrant world of Ancient Mexico as we welcomed Ian from Mexicolore to visit our Year 5 pupils.

Specialising in the history and culture of the Aztecs (Mexica) and Maya, Ian brought an incredible collection of authentic artefacts, musical instruments, and costumes to provide our pupils with a truly immersive learning experience.

The interactive workshop allowed the children to step beyond their textbooks and engage directly with history. Throughout the morning, Year 5 explored:

  • Ancient Traditions: Pupils learned about the daily lives of the Aztec and Maya people, from their advanced agricultural techniques to their complex calendar systems.
  • Music and Ritual: The hall was filled with the unique sounds of indigenous instruments, including traditional percussion.
  • Artefacts and Costumes: The children had the rare opportunity to see and handle items that represent the creativity of these ancient civilizations.

This visit forms a key part of our Year 5 History curriculum, encouraging curiosity and providing a deeper understanding of how these ancient societies have shaped the modern world.

A huge thank you to Ian and the Mexicolore team for such an energetic and educational morning!
