We were delighted to welcome back RMS alumna Emily Boxall, co-founder of MicroFact, to speak with our Sixth Form students about a topic that is increasingly at the forefront of their minds: financial independence.
Emily’s visit wasn’t a standard lecture. Instead, she introduced our students to 2mins, a newly launched app designed to transform “dry” financial jargon into bite-sized, engaging games.
Gamifying Personal Finance
The session was a high-energy deep dive into adulting. Emily shared how her app breaks down complex topics, like income tax, into simple, easy-to-understand modules. To put their new knowledge to the test, students competed in live games, complete with a leaderboard that sparked some healthy Sixth Form competition!
Clare Freeman, Head of Sixth Form, noted the impact of the visit:
“This is such an important topic that can seem quite dry, but it is something our students increasingly want to learn about as they head into the big, wide world. The 2mins app explains key areas in a quick, simple way. We’re looking forward to seeing what they learn and having Emily back to inspire us again.”
Preparing for Life Beyond the Gates
What stood out most was the students’ appetite for knowledge. During the Q&A, our Sixth Formers were eager to learn more about:
-
The mechanics of paying taxes.
-
Understanding and building credit scores.
-
How to begin investing safely at a young age.
Emily noted that these insights will go directly into the MicroFact archive, ensuring the app continues to meet the real-world needs of Gen Z.
It is always a proud moment for RMS to see our “Old Girls” thriving. Emily’s journey from our classrooms to co-founding a fintech start-up is a great example of the ambition we encourage at RMS. We look forward to seeing our students climb the “2mins” leaderboards as they prepare for life beyond RMS!
