Students studying Spanish at RMS have been enjoying the advantages of a newly established partnership with a school in Madrid this year, a collaboration that has earned them the prestigious Bronze Award from the Global School Alliance.

Since September, Year 8 students have been writing letters to penpals at the Arcangel Rafael International School, including descriptions about themselves and their hobbies. Their eagerly awaited replies have just arrived from Madrid so they will be writing their next letters back very soon!

Meanwhile, in the Sixth form, A Level students studying Spanish have taken part in a webinar with students learning English in the equivalent year group. Conversations ranged from musical preferences to tourist attractions, political opinions to future plans!

It was a fabulous experience for the students to put their speaking and listening skills to use in a real-life situation, and will hopefully be the start of a developing project for the Sixth form students.

- Mrs Rogers, Head of Modern Foreign Languages

A big thank you to Mrs Rogers and the rest of the Spanish department for enriching our students’ learning by bringing Spanish to life and creating real-world connections.
