A group of RMS Year 10 boarders took the runners-up prize in the Excellence in Arts category at this year’s Wings of Hope Achievement Awards (WOHAA) held in London on July 13th.
This charity competition encourages pupils in Years 9 – 13 to collaborate and fundraise, supporting the charity’s vision to provide free education for children in India and Malawi.
This year, Athena, Anahita, Yoyo, and Minika formed the team Wings of World and raised over £600 for the charity by designing and selling beautifully handmade Japanese and Taiwanese bookmarks and post cards.
The team were invited to the Semi-Finals held at the Houses of Parliament last term, where they gave a remarkable presentation to a panel of prominent politicians and respected business individuals, including Lord Robin Butler, Jeremy Soames, and Tania Fares.
They presented their reasons for committing to the project, fundraising efforts, and examples of the personal growth that they experienced during the year.
The group’s hard work paid off as they made it to the Final, being awarded the runners-up prize in the Excellence in Arts category at a glitzy awards ceremony held at London Business School last week, hosted by TV and radio presenter, AJ King.
Head of Senior School, Ms Bailey, and Head of Year 10, Mrs Gratte, attended the ceremony on the pupils’ behalf and collected the award from Lady Juliet McNally, wife of Lord Tom McNally who is a member of the House of Lords and a Patron of Wings of Hope.
